many thanks to Dawkins for the format. Love ya! ;D
regulations
The most important rules!
[/li][li] Have fun, of course! Role playing is all about fun, isn't it? We're not looking to establish cliques or anything of the sort. This isn't a contest or real life either. This is just for fun.
[/li][li]Treat your fellow members with respect. We want to be a fun community, not a drama breeding ground. Learn to separate fantasy from reality. Not all characters are nice, but it doesn't mean somebody doesn't like you if their character is being a jerk. Some characters are just that way.
[/li][li] There ARE standards. Grasp the basics of grammar, please. Speech goes in quotation marks, there is to be NO first person pov stuff here, etc. Also, I frown on oneliners and chatspeak ic. Our goal is for literate role playing, but I will put the minimum at 200-205 words per post. I know that sounds like a lot just because of the number, but trust me..it isn't. Anybody can EASILY write that and more.
Oh and, of course...since you are playing all characters from one account- please post in the color you selected for the specific character you are posting as. So as to prevent confusion.
The Basics
[/li][li] This means that, yes, the game mechanics are unimportant here. There are no stats to keep track of, levels to report, pokemon are not limited to four moves, and there is no tedious battle system to go by. (however, if godmoding and powerplaying become an issue, a system WILL be implemented.)
[/li][li] Since it is a free-form role play in some aspects, your characters ARE allowed to be in multiple places at once. However, keep in mind that these two threads are NOT happening at the same time. Don't drag information from one thread into another, unless it's appropriate. ( such as, your character learned something in another thread that is going on, but said other thread takes place before the one in which they're telling that information. THAT makes sense, because at that point, it already happened.)
Basically, just make sure you keep track of the order of your threads.
[/li][li] Since this is a discussion forum as well, you only need one account. For the Spectrum role play, you will apply for and play all your characters from this account. You will color-code your characters; that is, you will assign a color to each character you play. That way, whenever you are typing as one character- you do so in the color you assigned to them, so we know who you are playing. When you are approved, please do roll on over to the thread where you can post your character's colors.
[/li][li] There is no set plot in stone. Part of the reasoning for this, is so that you can have your trainers doing pretty much anything. (within reason of course.)
The point is, everybody helps contribute to what's going on, or everybody just enjoys themselves. There WILL be plot points at some point- where you will need to sign your characters up to participate. However, don't feel obligated. If you do not sign up in time, you won't be able to take part in that plot, but you'll still be able to role play in the Spectrum threads pretty much everywhere. (EXCEPT the thread(s) where the plot is taking place, of course.)
[/blockquote]Characters
[/li][li]You ARE required to apply for characters. For fan characters, there is a basic application form to provide necessary information. No role playing sample required, though you will be expected to abide by our standards. For canons, you merely need to provide an audition rp sample. Obviously, you must be approved as either before you can begin role play.
[/li][li]You have pretty free reign when it comes to your characters. SPECTRUM welcomes canons and fan characters alike- and there are so many classes you can choose from! Trainer, breeder, coordinator, hopeful gym leader, member of a criminal syndicate, researcher, ruin explorer, law enforcement, professor, ranger, anything! If it's in the anime or the games, you're allowed to do it! :3
[/li][li]You are ALSO allowed to start off with a full team of pokemon. Heck, they can even all be fully-evolved. The staff members here have no desire to force you to play a beginning trainer, and then have to play a good deal of your adventure out for you. Where's the fun in that? You can be a beginning trainer if you want, although we highly encourage you not to be. Call us lazy if you will, but we believe it's more fun to play trainers already on their adventures; experiencing new things even WITH a team of pokemon.
[/li][li] Legendaries are off-limits for capturing. In SPECTRUM world, even though it is based mostly in the anime, the legendaries are considered deities. Not everybody believes the old legends that speak of them as such, but they operate as sort of 'divine' presences..as they do in the movies. They are one of a kind, and may communicate with humans/take an illusionary form of one if they wish. Legendaries also may test humans or interact with them as they wish. Your trainer can act like they're going to capture one, but they won't be able to. Ever, sorry. Criminal syndicates may be allowed to temporarily capture a legendary for a plot device, but these rare creatures are not available for your characters to tote around on their teams.
Besides, the legendaries are all canon characters- being played by somebody else. If they want to befriend your character, they will. Otherwise, well...they're rare sights like they would be in that universe anyway.
[/li][li]Shiny pokemon are fine, within reason. I don't want people having full teams of shinies, and I think that's fair enough. They too are supposed to be fairly rare. Now, if you want to say you have a team of pokemon from islands where the berries give them unusual skin colors, that's fine. It happened in the anime, so that's not entirely the same. Unusually-colored pokemon that aren't shiny or the result of diet are fine too, but again these should be within reason. Just to be fair.
[/li][li]Fakemon...hm..I'm not really sure. If you can provide a VERY detailed application/bio of information for your fakemon, then yes. Otherwise, I'm a bit leery. Pokemon has more than enough monsters to choose from, anyway.
[/li][li]If you are applying for an oc member of a criminal organization, do not apply for a high-up position. UNLESS, of course, you have messaged the person playing the leader of the team and they say it's fine. If we do not have the leader, or the leader says no to a high up position right away, then just start your character off from the bottom. That way, they have something to prove and can claw their way to the top. :3
[/li][li]Resistance groups are, of course, allowed. Since the law enforcement in the pokemon world is sloppy at best, of course you are allowed to be a tamer forming/from a team whose goal is to help stop the evil syndicates.
[/li][li]Nobody should join as an accomplished pokemon master. Trainers, yes. But none of this 'i beat every region and the elite four and champion and i'm the best thing ever'. Sure, it's easy enough in the games- but we're talking the anime universe here. Ash has been going around for what, 10+years, and he's STILL not there. And he's the character the series loves! So, keep that in mind.
[/li][li] Also, the gym leaders, elites, champions, etc- are the canon ones. You may play a character looking to establish a new gym, or an older one who no longer has their gym, or even characters looking to some day take their place. But, starting off, they should NOT have met these goals.
And, by the way, gym leaders, elite, and champions...they can move around like they do in the anime. To have a battle with them, you'll need to pm them and get their permission.
[/li][li] Obviously, we don't want sues and stus. So no godly perfect characters?
[/li][li]Siblings of canons MUST be approved by the person who plays that canon. You MUST message them asking if it is okay before you even apply, and if they say no you must take it graciously. If that particular canon is not around, then they may not be the sibling. It's unfair to the people who would play that canon to force a sibling upon them.
If you want to be a sibling of somebody else's fan character, again, ask their permission first. Obvious, right?
[/blockquote]canons?
[/li][li] You must audition for canons. You don't have to do an application form at all, but you do have to provide an audition role play. Also, we do ask that you tell us what you have in mind for the canon, if it's anything. If we feel you are playing the canon completely ooc, or something isn't clicking, please don't be offended.
There are literally hundreds of pokemon canons to choose from, including a ton of background characters whose personalities were never really fleshed out. For them, you could just whip up a sample and get approved right away, since they had no real strong roles or anything. It's also fun to take unimportant canons and make them your own! But, we do allow fan characters, so never fear if you don't get approved as a canon!
[/li][li]The legendaries are considered canons. Deities, at that. We're always looking for them too!
[/li][li]Please don't take too many of the same type of canon. Like, don't take all the girls ash has ever traveled with. Leave some room for other people to have a chance at the most popular characters. [/blockquote]
MOAR
[/li][li]Romance, well..let's put it this way. You want to form a shipping/pairing? Then you must be in agreement with the other character's player. BOTH of you must want to do this and agree to it. No forcing pairings on anybody, and remember to develop them! This isn't twilight, people.
This is true for any type of pairing. Canonxcanon, ocxoc, canonxoc, straight or slash- whatever it is, the other person has to be willing to participate in this. If somebody says no, deal with it. Don't get emo on them and start acting like you hate them. Not everybody is interested in your pairings, nor should they have to be. Take rejection well, or don't bother even trying for pairings if you can't handle a no.
[/li][li] Kidnapping people or pokemon, robbery, blackmail, bribery, attempted recruitment, takeovers, all that fun criminal stuff must also be approved. If you're going to try and make a victim of somebody else's character, you better pm them first and get their permission. It's only fair.
[/li][li] When it comes to pokemon battles, I'm going to give you all the benefit of the doubt and assume you are all mature enough to handle it fairly. If there are issues, then the dice system will be implemented..and trust me, it will be a pain in the butt to abide by. Don't make it necessary. You can't always win, or dodge.
[/li][li] No godmoding or powerplaying, unless it's necessary. And when it's necessary, that is from legendaries or villains. You should not be playing other people's characters for them.
[/li][li]Legendaries will interact with your trainer if they want, or set up a thread open to anybody. You will NOT pressure or badger them to thread with you. Again, the legendaries are fairly secretive creatures for the most part. They can't be expected to jump into everybody's threads.
[/li][li]Please do not abuse the ability to play multiple characters. Don't take a character JUST for the sake of heavy interaction with another one of your characters. It is fine in doses, but not if it's the sole reason you picked up that character- and they ignore everybody but your other one. [/blockquote]

Congratulations! You survived the Spectrum rp rules! :3 More will be added ONLY if necessary. Please don't make it necessary.
regulations
It should be noted that these guidelines apply solely to the 'SPECTRUM RP' section. Outside of it, individual users may create rules for other role plays. The spectrum section is intended to operate as ic sections would on a role playing forum- so for that reason it must have guidelines to try and keep things fair.
The most important rules!

The Basics
[/li][li] SPECTRUM is a free-form pocket monsters role play, centered predominately in the anime universe. While we do, of course, take some things from the games and allow you to do so as well, it needs to be said that the section is intended to feel/flow more like the anime.
[/li][li] This means that, yes, the game mechanics are unimportant here. There are no stats to keep track of, levels to report, pokemon are not limited to four moves, and there is no tedious battle system to go by. (however, if godmoding and powerplaying become an issue, a system WILL be implemented.)

[/blockquote]Characters
Now that we've gotten the basics out of the way, let's tackle characters!character types?
[/li][li] I'm sorry, but I must inform you that pokemorphs and wild pokemon are not accepted. The ONLY exceptions to this rule are the legendaries, who are all canons up for grabs. My experience with pokemorphs on other sites have not been very good ones, and I just don't want them here for a while. MAYBE my mind can be briefly changed by a plot point at some time in the future, but for now- no. As for pokemon, well..you're going to be playing your trainer's pokemon as well as the trainer. They are allowed to have personalities of their own.
[/li][li]You ARE required to apply for characters. For fan characters, there is a basic application form to provide necessary information. No role playing sample required, though you will be expected to abide by our standards. For canons, you merely need to provide an audition rp sample.
